Kathmandu, September 30
An agreement has been reached in the controversy over Khem Century’s new song, Bahun Bajey Kina Kaseko. The agreement came after two days of talks between the complainant and Century at Nepal Police’s Cyber Bureau.
Under the written agreement, the disputed words will be removed from the song, the scene showing a Brahmin eating during worship will be blurred, and the song’s title will be changed.
Both sides have signed the written agreement. The complaint filed with the bureau alleged the song demeans and insults the Brahmin community, and demanded it be taken down immediately.
Following the complaint, police called both sides in for discussion on Tuesday. Since Tuesday’s talks didn’t reach a conclusion, they were called in again on Wednesday.
Hindu activist Sagar Thapa, among others, had filed the complaint with the bureau. The activists objected to a specific line in the song referencing the eating of pork.
The song, released three weeks ago, has been viewed more than 6.5 million times on YouTube.
