Two killed, four injured in Kavre jeep accident, rescued by helicopter

Kathmandu, August 17

Seriously injured victims of a jeep accident in Syau Thali, Ward 1 of Khanikhola Rural Municipality, Kavrepalanchok, have been rescued by helicopter from Kamidanda in Bethanchok and brought to Dhulikhel Hospital.

According to Khanikhola Rural Municipality Chairman Indra Bahadur Theeng, a helicopter had been arranged to rescue the injured directly from the accident site, but thick fog made this difficult.

Since the weather at the accident site did not clear, victims were first brought by ambulance to Kamidanda in Ward 5 of Bethanchok Rural Municipality, and taken onward by helicopter from there. Bethanchok Ward 5 Chairman Rajkumar Lama said the injured were flown from Kamidanda to Dhulikhel Hospital via a Nepali Army helicopter.

Two people died in the accident: Kalak Bahadur Majhi of Khanikhola-4, and Patalimaya (Anita) Moktan, whose maternal home was in Khanikhola-2 and who lived in Banepa, Sanga. Four others were seriously injured — Rawal Tamang of Sanga, Pradip Jargamagar of Khanikhola-3, Bahutaman Rumba of Dumre, Khanikhola-5, and Dhanpati Rawal of Sukute, Sindhupalchok’s Sangachowk Gadhi Municipality.

The accident occurred after the jeep’s brakes failed and it fell roughly 200 meters down from the road.
