Kathmandu, November 3

Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has completely banned the sale and distribution of plastic flowers, garlands and various decorative items made of plastic within its jurisdiction ahead of the upcoming Tihar festival.

The metropolis has urged businesses, traders and the general public to prioritise the use of locally produced flowers and garlands.

Issuing a notice, the Metropolitan Police Force, under the Office of the Municipal Executive, warned that all plastic flowers, garlands and decorative items, as well as products that fail to meet quality standards, will be seized if found being sold in violation of the notice.

To ensure that flowers and garlands produced by Nepali farmers receive a proper market and are easily accessible to consumers, the Metropolitan Police Force has designated several locations for their sale in coordination with concerned agencies.

The designated locations include NB Centre and Eyeplex Mall in New Baneshwor, Big Mart in Shankhamul, SalesBerry in Mid-Baneshwor, Phoenix Tower in Battisputali, Tinkune Ground and Sifal Ground.

Similarly, flowers can be sold at AC Complex, Ganeshsthan Vegetable Market and outside KL Tower in the Chabahil area.

Other designated locations include the IT Building in Kamaladi, Star Mall in Putalisadak, Bhatbhateni in Anamnagar, Kathmandu Mall in Sundhara, Bajra Complex (Good Mart) in New Plaza, Dharma Chakra Park in Swayambhu, Bhatbhateni in Kalanki, Valley Cold Store in Naya Bazaar, and Buddha Mall and Gunastar Khaldo in Machhapokhari.

Additional sales locations include Kalimati Banquet and Chaukhel in Kalimati, the public platforms in front of Ward No. 5 Office and Ganesh Temple in Handigaun, Koirala Smart in Samakhushi, SalesBerry in Maharajgunj, Gongabu, Chappal Karkhana and Big Mart in Baluwatar.

The metropolis has also designated the premises of Tebahal Temple, Lagan, Jaisidewal and Bhrikutimandap as flower-selling locations.

According to the notice, businesses and members of the public can contact the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Force office for further assistance and coordination.
