Kathmandu city forms its own planning commission

Kathmandu, April 9

The local government of Kathmandu has decided to form its own planning commission so as to facilitate its activities towards ‘a prosperous city’.

The council meeting of Kathmandu Metropolitan City recently endorsed a bill about the commission’s formation and operation. It will come into effect soon.

The commission will be authorised to prepare policies and plans for the city’s development and support their implementation. Likewise, it will collect, process and document data and information about various issues.

The commission will also carry out research, monitoring and evaluation on various projects, according to the new law.

The mayor will head the commission whereas the deputy mayor will be an invitee. The municipal executive will appoint a vice chairperson, who will be executive chief of the commission.

The mayor will appoint other nine members, of which at least one should be a woman, representing various stakeholders.
