Kathmandu, June 17

The Kathmandu metropolitan city has announced Rs 20 million support in relief for locals of Melamchi and Helambu in the Sindhupalchok district.

The places were severely hit by the floods and landslides on Tuesday and Wednesday. Several people in the area are missing whereas two bodies have been recovered from the water.

Making public the annual policy and programme for the next fiscal year, Kathmandu Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya announced the support on Monday saying it was the duty of Kathmandu to extend support as it has received drinking water from Melamchi.

Shakya said the money could also be used in rescuing the locals who are missing.

The disaster has rendered dozens of families in the area homeless.
