Surkhet, August 19
Karnali Province Chief Minister Mangal Bahadur Shahi is set to seek a vote of confidence from the provincial assembly today. He is seeking the vote in accordance with the constitutional provision requiring a newly appointed chief minister to secure a vote of confidence from the provincial assembly.
Before the vote, the CPN-UML and CPN will hold discussions shortly. According to CPN leader Kalibahadur Malla, the two parties will discuss the vote of confidence, power-sharing arrangements, and the operation of the government in the coming days.
Following the discussions between the UML and CPN, they are also preparing to hold talks with other parties regarding the power-sharing arrangement and the vote of confidence.
Chief Minister Shahi has already registered a proposal seeking a vote of confidence at the Provincial Assembly Secretariat. The agenda has been set for the proposal to be discussed at the provincial assembly meeting scheduled for 3 pm today, after which Chief Minister Shahi will seek the vote of confidence.
If Chief Minister Shahi secures the vote of confidence, it will pave the way for the regular functioning of his government. Shahi has said that the government will then move forward by prioritising its policies and programmes, development projects, and contemporary issues facing the province.
Earlier, Yam Lal Kandel, who had become chief minister from the CPN-UML, resigned on July 25. Subsequently, on July 28, CPN parliamentary party leader Mangal Bahadur Shahi was appointed as the fifth chief minister of Karnali Province.
