Kathmandu, December 5

Kamal Thapa, one of the outgoing chairpersons of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, has boycotted the oath-taking ceremony of the party’s newly elected officials.

Thapa was defeated by Rajendra Lingden during the vote held on Saturday. Following the announcement of the results on Sunday morning, Thapa tweeted claiming former King Gyanendra Shah played a role in his defeat.

Whereas Thapa’s tweet had earned a lot of attention this morning, he continued tweeting, apparently in his frustration of the loss, whereas the party organised a grand ceremony to swear in the new officials. That, however, did not show up at the event.

The other two outgoing chairpersons Pashupati Shamsher Rana and Prakash Chandra Lohani, however, were present. Lohani had extended his support to Lingden whereas Rana was on the Thapa side.

It is speculated that Thapa is planning to split the party.
