Kamal Thapa breached code of conduct: Election Commission

Kathmandu, April 4

The EC has decided to seek explanation from RPP leader and Deupty Prime Minister Kamal Thapa after he allegedly breached the election code of conduct by visitng districts outside the valley.

Thapa can only visit district headquarters, that too after receiving a go-ahead from the commission, said Election Commissioner Sudhir Shah. He said the commission has taken note of Thapa’s recent visits to Syangja.

DPM Thapa, on Sunday, visited Andhikholaand Sirubari in Syangja. He also walked for two hours to reach Sirubari in the district to consult his party supporters. He even visited former RPP General Secretary Chandra Bahadur Gurung’s house in the area.

Thapa then went to Baglung on Monday to address his party cadres.

Meanwhile, RPP leader Rajaram Bartaula says Thapa has not breached the code of conduct. He said, “The Minister went to a pre-scheduled programme organised by the District Development Committee. He met the local people to learn about their problems.”
