Kathmandu, September 30

The parliamentary Social Justice and Human Rights Committee has directed authorities concerned to issue a red corner notice through Interpol against Indian national Rakesh Wadhwa, Shalini Wadhwa and Shanti Chaddha.

It has directed the authorities to arrest the Indian nationals, bring them to Nepal and retrieve money they owe to staffers of Casino Nepal. The Indians owe 931 employees of Casino Nepal, which Nepal Recreations Centre (NRC) used to operate at Soaltee Hotel complex, a whopping Rs 45.42 crore in salary and allowances and six years’ royalty to government of Nepal.

It has directed the Ministry of Tourism to make arrangements for payment to casino employees through Soaltee Hotel if it cannot make Wadhwas and Chaddha pay the dues by bringing them to Nepal through Interpol.

The committee pointed that it was Soaltee Hotel itself that got permission from competent authorities for operation of Casino Nepal, selected employees for the same and gave NRC the casino on lease. After NRC ‘fled’, Soaltee Hotel broke the contract, so the hotel itself should pay the employees, the committee concluded.

The committee also directed the tourism ministry to present regulations governing operation of casinos in the Parliament.
