Families refuse to accept the bodies of deceased inmates

The families of two inmates who died in the district prison Sankhuwasabha have refused to accept their bodies.

Binod Tolangi, 19, of Madi municipality-5 in Sankhuwasabha, and Aakash Balami, 28, of Kakani rural municipality-7 in Nuwakot died on Wednesday morning during treatment said DSP Birendra Godar.

However, the bereaved families claimed that the two were beaten to death.

Godar said they found the two fleeing the prison in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Eyewitnesses say the police beat the two mercilessly after arresting them.

The families and relatives of the deceased staged a demonstration and chanted slogans in front of the prison as a sign of protest.

They have demanded action against those involved in the beating.

Tolangi was in prison for rape while Balami was sent to prison for burglary.

A three-member committee has been formed to investigate the incident. The committee is led by CDO Mohan Mani Ghimire. Inspector Saroj Khanal and Tarini Ghimire of the district administration office are members.
