Indian nationals held with illegal gold at TIA

Kathmandu, January 5

An Indian national has been arrested at Tribhuvan International Airport with 500 gm of gold.

Kijakethil Nausad, who arrived in Kathmandu from Sarjah, UAE, was found to have carried 500gm of gold by hiding it inside capsules, police said. Authorities have already seized six kilos of gold from the airport this week.

Nepal has stringent laws in place to protect the local currency when it comes to importing gold. While foreigners are not allowed to import gold into the country, Nepali passport holders can bring in 100 gm of gold, which is also heavily taxed, when they return to the country.
