India still wants to help Nepal build fast-track, Nijgadh Airport: Singh

Kathmandu, March 27

India’s newly-appointed ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri says his country is still interested in helping Nepal build the Kathmandu-Terai fast-track and the second international airport in Nijgadh.

Singh’s comments come in the backdrop of the government’s recent decision to develop the projects using its own resources. “I would like to emphasise that India is committed to helping Nepal build the strategically important 77-km Kathmandu-Nijgadh fast-track and the second international airport,” Singh said speaking at a programme in Kathmandu.

The ambassador said his government was also interested in extending its line of credit to Nepal if it wanted it. If projects such as the Pancheswor, Arun III, Upper Karnali and Koshi hi-dam are completed, Nepal will be self-reliant on energy and irrigation, he said.

Singh added that the recent hi-level exchange of visits between the two countries has consolidated bilateral ties.
