India saddened by Kanchanpur incident: Home Minister Singh

New Delhi, March 16

India’s Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has described the Kanchanpur incident in Nepal in which a local lost his life as saddening.

Singh, who met his Nepali couterpart Bimalendra Nidhi in New Delhi’s North Block on Thursday, made the statement after the Nepali Home Minister drew his attention to it.

Nepal has proposed that additional technicians be deployed along the border to resolve disputes related to the Indo-Nepal border. Three joint teams have been working on resolving border disputes for the last three years. Nepal wants two more teams to be deployed for the job.

According to Nidhi’s press advisor Ramji Dahal, Minister Singh said India responded positively to the proposal. Dahal said Nidhi and Singh also discussed matters related to cooperation in security.

Meanwhile, Nidhi urged Singh to provide logistic support to Nepal’s Election commission for the upcoming polls. Dahal said Singh was also positive on the issue. Nidhi, who is in India to attend a counter-terrorism conference, will meet External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj later in the afternoon.
