Nepali Congress leader Shekhar Koirala says he is also able to lead the Nepali Congress party.
Koirala’s statement comes at a time when youth leaders of the party have been pressing the party leadership to hand over the leadership to the next generation following the party’s historic debacle. Koirala also lost the polls to CPN-UML’s Lal Babu Pandit in Morang-6.
But, speaking with journalists at his private residence in Biratnagar today, Koirala said, “I do not say that I am not capable for leadership.”
Koirala said he was as qualified as youth leaders to lead the party. “I am as active as them in meeting my cadres and mobilising them. The Congress is made up of youth’s energy and aged’s prudence; and youth should not forget it.”
In another context, Koirala said if would be better if his party President Sher Bahadur Deuba quit the premiership owing to the party’s poor performance in recent polls.
Meanwhile, Koirala said he did not think that two leftist parties would not unify anytime soon.
