Kathmandu, June 6

The International Cricket Council, which suspended the membership of Nepal’s cricket association in April citing government interference, has written to stakeholders of CAN, and directed CEO Bhawana Ghimire to coordinate preparations for the national squad’s Europe tour.

According to sources, the ICC’s Global Development Manager Tim Anderson on Sunday night, in his letter to ‘elected CAN’ President Chatur Bahadur Chand,  ‘ad-hoc’ CAN President Ramesh Silwal and the National Sports Council, said that the ICC has assigned Ghimire as its local coordinator to prepare for the national squad’s World Cricket League fixtures against the Netherlands.

The letter says, a two-member selection committee comprising captain Paras Khadka and coach Jagat Tamatta, will choose players for the two-match series against the Dutch. Former Indian international Raju Venkatapathy will assist the committee, according to the letter.

Similarly, the ICC has said it will provide funds for the national team to prepare for the tour, and the funds could come from the account of the suspended CAN, which was frozen by the ICC in 2014 citing mismanagement.

Nepal are to play the Netherlands on August 13 and August 15. Similarly a friendly against the English Club MCC at Lords has been scheduled for July 19.
