Human trafficking through the Nepal-India border continues unabated

Rupandehi, September 30

Incidents of human trafficking are taking place through the border checkpoint of Rupandehi.

Maiti Nepal data show human traffickers have been selling Nepali women and children to India and third countries on different temptations.

The Rupandehi chapter of Maiti Nepal says the incidents of human trafficking have continued unabated. As many as 56 women and children were rescued from the Belahiya border area from mid-July to mid-August in the current fiscal year.

In the fiscal year 2018/19, a total of 253 were rescued from the Nepal-India border entry point at Belahiya while they were being trafficked to India, The next year, 242 trafficked women and girls were rescued. Likewise, in 2020/21, a total of 151 women and girls were rescued while being trafficked to India.

Human traffickers have been sending Nepali girls and women to India and Gulf countries while children have been used in different circus shows.

Police inform human traffickers have been supplying women and adolescents to India through different checkpoints of Nepal showing false promises. Human traffickers are found to have trafficked Nepali women and children from different districts of the country, mainly Sindhupalchok, Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli.
