Situation in Hetauda is tense after protesters clashed with the police at Buddha Chowk in a demonstration against road expansion in the area. Buildings and other structures in around 25 metres of Rapti road are currently being demolished for the expansion of the Hetauda-Narayanghat road.

According to the police, the demonstration took a violent turn after some of the protesters started attacking officers with ‘home-made weapons’ and stones. An officer of Nepal Police was injured in the clash, according to Makwanpur district police office.

A police officer told Onlinekhabar: “We were attacked with sword, spear and stones when a sidewalk was being destroyed for the ongoing road expansion work.”

The police used force to stop the demonstration when the expansion was obstructed by the demonstrators.

15 buildings, including that of Red Cross Society, were demolished on Wednesday for the expansion.
