Kathmandu, May 5

As the lockdown imposed to control the coronavirus outbreak in the country lingers, the government is preparing to reopen factories and enterprises, gradually in three steps.

Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Supplies Lekh Raj Bhatta says factories producing foodstuffs and other essential items in the first phase, construction and infrastructure sectors in the second phase, and export-oriented industries in the third phase.

“A meeting of the coronavirus control high-level committee will prepare the final recommendation on Thursday and the cabinet meeting on Wednesday will make a final decision,” he informs.

Officials in the ministry say they are also preparing a guideline to regulate the operation of the industries during this period. The guideline requires them to adopt necessary prevention measures such as social distancing and the use of masks and sanitiser.

The government has already consulted representatives of the industries in this regard.
