Kathmandu, February 4

Sources in the Ministry of Finance say the government will not introduce a supplementary budget plan for conducting the House of Representatives elections as announced.

There are no certainties about the polls as the Supreme Court is reviewing the government’s decision to dissolve the House of Representatives and conduct fresh elections in April and May. But still, the ministry is under pressure as it does not have sufficient surplus except the funds allocated for development projects and regular expenses.

However, the ministry is not in a mood to announce a supplementary budget plan for the polls.

An official in the ministry says it needs to manage around Rs 100 billion for the polls. Now, the ministry will check where unspent funds are and they will be channelised for the polls, according to him.

Generally, regular expenses cannot be transferred for the polls, therefore development projects are at the receiving end, it has been learned.
