Govt hospital doctors call off protests

Kathmandu, March 3

The Government Doctors’ Association of Nepal (GODAN) has called off its protests following an assurance from the government that their demands would be addressed.

Doctors working at different health facilities across the country were dissatisfied over some points in the employees’ adjustment bill. Their association has demanded some amendments to the bill.

“We were assured by the Ministry of Health and Population that it would take an initiative to address our concern,” said GODAN in a statement.

GODAN Chair Dr Dipendra Pandey said that a GODAN delegation on Saturday talked to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal regarding the issue.

GODAN’s demands include a guarantee that government doctors continue to work under the federal government and career enhancement opportunities be provided for those deployed at the local and provincial levels.
