Gagan Thapa: Speaker acted like executive’s shadow

Gagan Thapa

Kathmandu, May 7

Influential Nepali Congress leader Gagan Thapa has accused Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara of working in the House of Representatives as a shadow of the executive and a blind follower of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

Thapa’s statement follows a protest of Congress lawmakers during the House meeting today after Mahara let Prime Minister Oli continue his speech despite the objection of a Congress lawmakers.

Oli’s statement that he would ‘answer to the lawmakers’ questions without heeding aggression, envy and mean expressions’ had infuriated the opposition lawmakers.

“Once again, the Speaker has failed to take the responsibility of a Speaker. He has acted as the executive’s shadow and PM’s follower, not the chief of legislative,” Thapa said after the meeting.

The leader said Mahara looked frightened of the PM.
