(Updated) Gagan Thapa says it was luck that saved him

Nepali Congress leader  Gagan Thapa, who was injured in a blast in Chapali of Kathmandu today, said he survived the attack just because of luck.

The party’s candidate for Kathmandu-4 for House of Representatives, is undergoing treatment at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital

“I and one of my friends were heading towards the front of our rally as we were getting late,” he said, “That is how I survived; but people behind me received critical injuries.”

He said the blast targeted him.

Total 11 persons including Thapa were injured in the incident. Two of them are critical.

Gagan Thapa hurt in Chapali explosion

Kathmandu, December 4

Nepali Congress leader and the party’s candidate for Kathmandu-4, Gagan Thapa, has sustained injuries in a blast in Chapali of Budhanilakantha, Kathmandu on Monday.

The incident occurred when Thapa was busy in a door-to-door campaign to solicit votes for him on the last day of electioneering. He has been undergoing treatment at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital.

Severity of Thapa’s injuries is not immediately known. He has sustained injuries on his back and an ear.

Some other people have also sustained injuries in the incident as the explosion smashed windowpane of a nearby house.

Some of the injured are said to be critical.

Police say they are yet to know who planted the explosive.
