The general assembly of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry has passed a resolution to amend its charter, clearing the deck for Senior VP Bhawani Rana to become President, without having to face election.
Over 90 per cent of members who attend the special assembly in Kathmandu on Thursday voted in favour of the amendment, Rana’s aide Anup Bahadu Malla told Onlinekhabar.
With the amendment, FNCCI’s senior-most VP will automatically become President after the tenure of the sitting president expires. According to observers, FNCCI elections, which used to revolve around the post of President will now do so around he senior VP position.
Meanwhile, six former Presidents of the federation have boycotted the special assembly saying they were not consulted about the amendment. Mahesh Lal Pradhan, Padma Jyoti, Anandaraj Mulmi, Pradeep Kumar Shrestha, Binod Bahad Shrestha and Kush Kumar Joshi have said they do not support the amendment.
