Kathmandu, August 26
A sudden flash flood entering Nepal from the Tibetan side has caused significant damage to settlements in the Timure area of Rasuwa, with authorities warning communities downstream along the Trishuli River to remain alert.
According to the Rasuwa District Police Office, a large volume of water suddenly entered the area at around 9 am on Wednesday, causing damage to settlements in Timure.
Police said details of the extent of the damage are still being assessed.
The Flood Forecasting Division has also urged people living along the Trishuli River downstream to remain on high alert following the sudden rise in water levels. Authorities have extended the warning downstream as far as Muglin.
Flood reaches Nuwakot
The flood has also reached Nuwakot, according to the District Administration Office.
Rupesh Prasad Nepal, information officer at the District Administration Office in Nuwakot, said authorities were currently unable to provide details of any damage caused by the flood.
Residents living along riverbanks have been urged to remain vigilant and move to safer locations if necessary.
A meeting of the District Coordination Committee is underway to prepare for possible rescue and emergency response operations.
Authorities have urged people living along the Trishuli River corridor to remain alert as the water level could rise suddenly.
