Expel Indian ambassador Rae, UML students demand

Kathmandu, December 11

Student unions affiliated to Nepal’s main opposition party CPN-UML have demanded that Indian Ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae be expelled.

They have said that Rae interferes in Nepal’s internal matters breaching diplomatic decorum, and needs to be declared persona non grata.

A group of students submitted a petition to this effect to Foreign Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat in Kathmandu on Sunday. “Rae interferes in Nepal’s internal affairs, he needs to be sent back to India,” UML-aligned student body ANNFSU secretary Sudesh Parajuli told Onlinekhabar.

UML’s youth wings have been protesting the government’s proposal to amend the new constitution, especially the government’s bid to revise provincial boundaries, to address the demands of the Madheshi Morcha.
