The Everest View Trail Race, organised by Mapya Dudhkoshi Rural Municipality in Solukhumbu, has received international recognition.
The adventure race, which promotes tourism, nature conservation and sports development, has been officially recognised by the France-based international trail-running organisation Ultra-Trail.
The International Trail Running Association (ITRA) has also awarded the race three points. These points, which runners earn based on the difficulty of the distance and elevation of recognised trails, can help them qualify for other prestigious international trail races around the world.
Following the international recognition, Mapya Dudhkoshi Rural Municipality Chair Buddhikiran Rai said the campaign to connect sports with tourism, nature, culture and adventure travel had achieved its objective. He said the recognition would provide an additional opportunity to showcase the area’s natural and cultural heritage to the world.
The trail covers approximately 48 kilometres, with a maximum elevation of 3,181 metres and a minimum elevation of 1,803 metres. Runners have a maximum time limit of seven hours and 45 minutes to complete the race.
The race starts at the under-construction Korku Stadium and passes through Mahabhir, Siliguri, Kudham High Camp and Kailashnath Mahadev Temple before finishing at Korku Stadium.
During the race, runners can enjoy views of mountain ranges including Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga, Numbur, Thamserku and Mera Peak. Adventure destinations such as Blas Waterfall and Mahabhir are also among the attractions along the trail.
