Everest Day celebrated in New Zealand

An Everest Day event in Wellington of New Zealand, on Thursday, June 7, 2019.

Kathmandu, June 7

For the first time since the first ascent of Mount Everest 66 years ago, a celebration was held in New Zealand, the home country of first summitter Edmund Hillary, this year.

The Nepali community in Wellington organised the event at New Zealand parliament premises on Thursday.

On the occasion, New Zealand Nepal Society president Dinesh Khadka said, “Successful completion of this event at parliament premises takes the relations between Nepal and New Zealand to the next level.”

Edmund’s Hillary’s wife June Hillary and New Zealand’s Minister for Ethnic Communities Jenny Salesa among other dignitaries were present at the event.

Nepalis had performed some Nepali dances during the event.
