Kathmandu, September 13
Nepali feature film ‘Tiniharu’ (Elephants in the Fog), winner of the Un Certain Regard Jury Prize 2026 at the Cannes Film Festival, will hold a special charity screening in France as part of its ongoing international journey and in solidarity with Nepal.
Directed by Abinash Bikram Shah, the film opens theatrically in France on September 23. Ahead of its French release, a special preview screening will be held at UGC Les Halles in Paris on September 17, 2026. Director Abinash Bikram Shah will be present at the screening, organised under the banner “In Solidarity with Nepal.”
The proceeds received by the French distributor from this special screening will be donated to a fund established by the Government of Nepal to support people affected by floods and natural disasters in the country.
Earlier, the team behind Tiniharu (Elephants in the Fog) also organised a special Fundraising Screening in Kathmandu on Bhadra 17 to support flood victims in Nepal. The entire amount raised from that screening was donated to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund for relief and support for those affected by the floods.
The special screening in France is being organised by the film’s French team and distributor as an expression of solidarity with families affected by the recent floods and natural disasters across Nepal. With the film currently playing in cinemas in Nepal, the initiative also extends the film’s efforts to raise support for Nepal internationally.
Representing Nepal, Tiniharu made history as the first Nepali feature film to be selected for the Un Certain Regard section in the 79-year history of the Cannes Film Festival, where it went on to win the Un Certain Regard Jury Prize. Since then, the film has continued its international journey, earning recognition and acclaim at film festivals around the world.
In Nepal, the film has been in theatrical release across the country since September 4, receiving an enthusiastic response from audiences and positive reactions from critics.
Director Abinash Bikram Shah said that having the film’s French screening become an opportunity to extend support and solidarity to flood victims in Nepal is deeply meaningful to the team.
The film stars Pushpa Thing Lama, Deepika Yadav, Jasmin Bishwakarma, Aliz Ghimire, alongside Gauri Malla and Maotse Gurung, among others.
