Kathmandu, April 12

The Election Commission has formed mechanisms at different levels up to the local level to monitor the code of conduct implementation.

The commission says it has established central, district and local level mechanisms to check if the code that came into effect on Friday last week for the local elections scheduled to be held next month is effectively implemented.

“Until now, the commission would monitor the code from the central level only,” Election Commissioner Ishwari Prasad Paudyal says, “But, this time, we have taken our mechanisms to the district, constituency and local levels.”

Further, election officers deployed in every local unit will be authorised to take action if any incident of the violation of the code is found, according to him. Until their appointment, chief district officers will hold that right.

At the central level, the commission has established a code of conduct monitoring committee under the leadership of Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari.
