Transport management offices in the Kathmandu valley have halted conducting driving tests for the purpose of issuing licences after traffic police demanded additional transparency in the process.

Earlier, the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division had written a letter to the Department of Transport Management, drawing its attention to some flaws in the process.

The division’s spokesperson, SP Shyam Krishna Adhikari, says the traffic police are holding a meeting with transport officials to discuss the issue.

He clarifies that the police do not have any misunderstanding with the transport officials, but they just want to make the process more transparent.

After a gap of over nine months due to the Covid-19 crisis, the government of Nepal had reopened applications for driving licence in late December only.
