Senior orthopaedic surgeon at the Tribhuvan University Institute of Medicine, Dr Govinda KC, says he will launch a fast-unto-death from July 24 demanding that the IoM be made autonomous.

It will be the 11th hunger strike of the veteran doctor in past few years demanding reforms in Nepal’s medical sector.

Earlier, he had served an ultimatum putting forth various demands including the autonomy to the IoM so that the Institute can make decisions on affiliation to colleges and fees of various academic programmes.

Dr KC has put forth eight demands this time including implementation of a report submitted by a panel led by Kedar Bhakta Mathema to improve medical education sector, endorsement of the Medical Education Act.

Dr KC had ended his 10th hunger strike after signing a 12-point agreement with the government representatives on December 04, 2016.
