Don’t push Election Commission to breach constitution: Congress to left alliance

The Nepali Congress says the left alliance consisting of CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre should not put pressure on the Election Commission to commit any act that could violate the constitutional provision.

The statement of the Prime Minister’s follows a meeting between left alliance leaders and the poll commissioners, in which the leaders reportedly urged the commissioners to announce final results of proportional representation elections for House of Representatives at the earliest while the Commission was stating that the results would be announced only after the conclusion of National Assembly elections.

A meeting of top leaders of the Congress party held at the PM’s residence in Baluwatar today said the Commission was right about its view that National Assembly polls would be necessary for the announce of results and no party should force the constitutional body to act unconstitutionally.

“We have also told the prime minister to consult top leaders of other national parties and fix the date for National Assembly polls at the earliest,” Congress leader Bal Krishna Khand informed after the meeting.

Khand claims the PM will consult top leaders today or tomorrow before the government announces the poll date.
