Kavrepalanchok, October 9
Three diversions have been built along the BP Highway that was damaged by floods in the Roshi River following continuous rainfall on October 4 and 5.
A diversion has been constructed at Ghumaune in Roshi Rural Municipality–7, Kavre section. With the completion of this diversion, two-way traffic has resumed between Katunje Danda and Charausebesi. However, vehicles can reach Charausebesi only after the completion of the diversion at Chaukidanda.
According to the Bhaktapur Road Division Office, diversions are being constructed at five locations in the Kavre section and one in the Sindhuli section. Information Officer Bindu Adhikari said work is underway to build diversions at Chaukidanda, Charausebesi, Pinthali, and Bhyakurekhola in the Kavre section.
Twelve excavators, four wheel loaders, and eight tippers are being used to construct the diversions in Kavre.
Diversion work in Sindhuli section to be completed by evening
In the Sindhuli section of the BP Highway, diversions have already been built at Nepal Thok and Baluwa. Since the Roshi River made a new course slightly above Baluwa, work is underway to redirect the river and complete the diversion. According to Sudarshan Upreti, Information Officer at the Khurkot Road Division Office, the diversion work in the Sindhuli section will be completed by this evening.
Floods in the Roshi River washed away diversions at 19 points, 16 between Dapcha Khola and Barkhe Khola in Kavre, and three between Barkhe Khola and Nepal Thok in Sindhuli. Dapcha Khola alone caused damage at one location.
In total, 16 diversions along the BP Highway were swept away by floods. The Roshi River washed away diversions at Chaukidanda, Ghumaune of Katunje, Charausebesi, Gimdibesi, Narke, Chiuribas, Boksikuna, Kaladhunga, Dalabesi, and four spots in Piple, along with two points in Mamti. Similarly, three diversions between Barkhe Khola and Nepal Thok were destroyed. All diversions built after the last flood in October were washed away again this time.
Kulman Ghising to inspect BP Highway
Meanwhile, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development, Kulman Ghising, is set to inspect the ongoing diversion construction works along the Chaukidanda–Nepalthok section of the BP Highway.
Following the damage caused by the Roshi River, Minister Ghising had earlier announced at a press conference that the highway would reopen within three to four days. However, as the stated deadline has passed, he is now visiting the site for inspection.
