Kathmandu, February 18

Some locals residing near the Nepal Electricity Authority’s training centre in Kharipati of Bhaktapur district began leaving their houses to safety, fearing the Nepalis evacuated from Hubei of China, who have been currently quarantined in the centre, might spread the novel coronavirus infection.

To assure locals that those quarantined are not infected and the locals need not fear any epidemic, the Chief District Officer of the district, Hum Kala Pandey, started a campaign to make the locals aware. She visited the neighbourhood on Monday and urged the locals not to fear.

Pandey says she will go to the place on Tuesday also, adding she told the locals yesterday that no person quarantined had a coronavirus infection so they needed not to fear any epidemic.

She claims that those who left the houses two days ago already returned to the neighbourhood and the daily life is normal there.

Meanwhile, Minister for Health and Population Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal is also visiting the site this afternoon.
