The number of visitors to Dharahara has more than doubled following an extension of its opening hours, according to the Dharahara Operation and Management Unit in Sundhara.

Since July 16 (1st of Saun), the iconic tower has been open from 8 AM to 8 PM, compared to the previous schedule of 10 AM to 4 PM. Ticket counters now operate from 8 AM to 7 PM, with entry allowed until 8 PM.

“With the extended hours, the number of visitors has surged significantly,” said Mahesh Rai, head of the management unit. On average, the tower previously attracted around 1,200 visitors per day. In contrast, over the past three days alone, 8,638 people visited Dharahara.

The daily footfall has now reached up to 3,500. On the first day of the new schedule (Saun 1), 2,500 people visited, followed by 2,631 on Saun 2 and 3,507 on Saun 3.

In the first three days of the new schedule, revenue collection reached Rs 1.56 million. From mid-December 2024 to mid-July 2025 (Mangsir 2081 to Ashar end 2082), total revenue collection stood at Rs 51.26 million.
