Deuba under fire at Congress Central Working Committee meeting

Kathmandu, January 18

Nepali Congress President and incumbent party President Sher Bahadur Deuba has faced a severe criticism from Central Working Committee members of his party.

Speaking at a CWC meeting at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar today, many leaders blamed Deuba’s leadership for the party’s historic loss in recent provincial and federal parliamentary polls.

Those criticising the President were Arjun Narsingha KC, Kalyan Gurung, Pradeep Paudel, Chandra Bhandari and Nabindra Raj Joshi among others. Only one speaker–Mahendra Yadav–defended Deuba claiming successfully conducting the polls was his success.

Deuba, however, had wanted to skip the topic. He had assured the leaders that he would call another meeting to review the polls performance, adding this meeting would focus on preparations for the National Assembly polls scheduled for February 7.

Though the leaders criticised him, no one demanded his resignation.
