Kathmandu, August 3

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has directed Energy Minister Pampha Bhusal to bring back the retired managing director of the Nepal Electricity Authority, Kul Man Ghising, back to the position.

Accordingly, the ministry has directed incumbent MD Hitendra Dev Shakya to resign.

Ghising, who served the government-run power distribution monopoly for four years, had retired in September 2020 as the KP Sharma Oli-led government did not reappoint him despite a wide demand. He is credited for ending the hours-long daily power outage in the country.

A source in the prime minister’s secretariat says Deuba wants to appoint Ghising as soon as Shakya resigns.
