Death toll in Gen Z protests rises to 6

Kathmandu, September 8

The death toll from Monday’s Gen Z protests in the capital has risen to six as clashes with police turned increasingly violent.

According to hospital officials, four demonstrators died at the Trauma Center and one at Civil Hospital in New Baneshwor after suffering critical injuries from rubber bullets. Another protester succumbed at Kathmandu Medical College in Sinamangal, bringing the total fatalities to six.

Dozens more remain injured, though the exact number is yet to be confirmed. Hospitals continue to receive waves of casualties from across the city.

The protests escalated after police used force to disperse crowds, deploying tear gas, rubber bullets, and water cannons. Despite a curfew imposed from 12:30 pm across several areas of Kathmandu, demonstrations have not subsided.

New Baneshwor and surrounding areas remain tense as angered protesters continue to defy the curfew, clashing with security forces.
