Kathmandu, November 3

A day after Indian President Pranab Mukherjee’s arrival in Kathmandu on a three-day visit, traffic and pedestrian movement will continue to suffer in the Kathmandu Valley, thanks to stepped up security measures.

The government had declared November 2 a public holiday in view of Mukherjee’s arrival. With offices opened today and a steady stream of people, who had left for hometowns to celebrate Tihar, returning to the valley, the traffic management system is likely to feel the pressure, while stepping up security as the visiting dignitary moves around town to attend different programmes.

In the morning, Mukherjee offered special puja at Pashupatinath Temple and made it to Nepal Army’s Auditorium in Tundikhel to accept Kathmadu University’s honorary PhD. He returned to Hyatt Hotel after that.

There were traffic disruptions from 9 am till 11 am in a number of places like Bouddha, Mitrapark, Chabahil, Gaushala, Airport, Tinkune, New Baneshwor, Maitighar, Singhadurbar, Thapathali and Jorpati due to the President’s schedule.
