Dalit rights body threatens to take Nepal government to The Hague

Kathmandu, May 26

An organisation of Dalits has threatened to move the International Court of Justice against the government if it does not translate pledges that it made in the international fora into action.

United Dalit Rights Forum issued this warning against the government.

The first national convention of the forum decided to launch a concerted movement for Dalit rights by forging working unity with like-minded organisations and political parties. It also plans to wage a struggle for the creation of a special non-geographical province for Dalits.

The convention constituted a 99-member central working committee under Tara BK. BK has expressed commitment to continuing a struggle for Dalit rights.
