Nearly Rs 12 billion deposited in Prime Minister’s relief funds
Nearly Rs 12 billion has been deposited in the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund and Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, according to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. As of 9am Tuesday, a total of Rs 11.77 billion had been deposited in the two funds, the office said.
PM Balen Shah to lead 15-member delegation to UN General Assembly
Prime Minister Balendra Shah will lead a 15-member Nepali delegation to the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, according to sources at the Prime Minister’s Office. The delegation will include Prime Minister Shah, Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal and the Prime Minister’s Chief Adviser Kumar Ben, among others.
Researcher claims exceptional heat preceded glacier collapse that triggered deadly Rasuwa floods
The mountain glacier whose collapse triggered deadly floods in Nepal and China on August 26 experienced exceptionally high temperatures in the days before the disaster, according to an analysis of meteorological data by a researcher. Average temperatures at the glacier, located at an altitude of 5,200 metres, were estimated at around 5°C between August 21 and 26.
LPG supply falls in Kathmandu Valley as only 18,000 cylinders distributed
The supply of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for cooking has declined significantly in Kathmandu after landslides at Krishnabhir along the Prithvi Highway disrupted transportation. After the landslide blocked the main highway, gas companies have had to transport LPG trucks via the Tribhuvan Highway as an alternative route. Business operators say the longer and more difficult route has made it impossible to bring in enough gas to meet market demand.
Hong Kong beat Nepal to reach semifinals, Malaysia eliminated
Nepal lost to Hong Kong in their final group-stage match of the ACC Premier Cup. Hong Kong beat Nepal by 15 runs. Chasing a target of 262 set by Hong Kong, Nepal were all out for 246 in 49.1 overs. Ishan Pandey top-scored for Nepal with 90, but it wasn’t enough for victory.
3 Nepalis arrested in Japan over murder of Nepali woman
Three Nepalis have been arrested in connection with the murder of 25-year-old Nepali woman Laxmi Rajbanshi in Fukuoka, Japan. According to Japanese police, those arrested on murder charges are 28-year-old Sanju Tamang, who is studying at a vocational school in Hakata Ward of Fukuoka City; 25-year-old Amista Tamang, who lives in Tosu City, Saga Prefecture; and 22-year-old Prabin Lama, who also lives in Tosu City.
Nepal Gen Z Front seeks answers a year after the uprising
On the first anniversary of Nepal’s Gen Z uprising, the Nepal Gen Z Front has released a document questioning the government and political leadership over what has happened to the movement’s core demands a year on. The Front said the anniversary should be used to assess the progress made on the issues that brought young people to the streets last year, including good governance, accountability, transparency, institutional reform and digital rights.
