Cyclone ‘Montha’ moves South from Andhra Pradesh

Kathmandu, October 29

Cyclone Montha crossed the coast near Kakinada, between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, late Tuesday night.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclone has now weakened slightly after making landfall around 7 pm near Kakinada on Tuesday.

Heavy rainfall was recorded across several parts of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday evening. After causing damage in northern coastal Andhra Pradesh on Monday, rainfall activity has now shifted toward the southern coastal districts of SPSR Nellore and Prakasam, the IMD reported.

Andhra Pradesh, located on the southeastern coast of India, borders Tamil Nadu to the south. Based on IMD forecasts, the cyclone is expected to move toward the southern coast of Tamil Nadu or the Bay of Bengal.
