Copter bound for Kathmandu crashes in Nuwakot, seven dead

Seven people died when a Fishtail Air copter (call sign 9N AKA) bound for Kathmandu from Filim, Sirdibas VDC-8, Gorkha district, crashed at Betini, Madanpur VDC-9, Nuwakot district, on Monday.

Police said Captain Ranjan Limbu, Kitman Limbu, Agyani Gurung, Laxmi Gurung, Nisha Tamang, Prati Tamang and her five-day-old son died in the crash.

Nuwakot Chief District Officer Bishnu Prasad Pokharel said: Seven people have died in the air crash. The bodies are beyond recognition.

The chopper had left Filim for Kathmandu at 12.10 pm. A search for the chopper had begun after it lost contact with the control tower at 12.35 pm.

CDO Pokharel said they came to know about the chopper crash after local people informed at around 1 pm that fire was raging in Betini forest. Subsequently, Pokharel and security teams comprising Nepal Army personnel and police personnel had rushed to the site.

Dev Bahadur Bohora, superintendent of police at Nuwakot, told Onlinekhabar that bodies were being sent to  Kathmandu.

The crash site lies in the middle of Kathmandu and Nuwakot headquarters Bidur.
