Bhimduttanagar, October 17

Police have taken office-bearers of Bhimduttanagar-based Mahakali Transport Committee (Mahakali Yatayat Samiti) under control.

The police action came after office-bearers of Namaste Shuklafanta (P) Ltd lodged a complaint, accusing the committee of attacking one of its buses operating from Bhimduttanagar on Sunday. The arrestees include Padam Singh Bhat, MTC’s senior vice-president, Dambar Pant, vice-president of transport workers’ welfare fund and Bishnu Kandel, general secretary of the fund.

A dispute has arisen between Shuklafant and MTC after the former started its bus service from Bhimduttanagar after registering its transport committee. Traffic movement along the East-West Highway came to a halt for sometime after transport workers associated with MTC and Pawandut vandalised the Shuklafanta bus numbered Na 5 Kha 4150.

Meanwhile, MTC and Pawandut have threatened to enforce a transport strike after the arrest of their office-bearers.

Mahakali and Pavandut have been protesting against the operation of Shuklafanta buses, accusing it of running old buses that used to operate along eastern routes. They have been saying that Shuklafanta should bring new buses into operation, not the old ones that do not meet the set standards.
