Nepali Congress senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel says the main opposition party is ready to support the government in its efforts to safeguard the country’s territorial integrity.

Paudel’s statement comes after India reportedly kept a disputed land in Kalapani area, which Nepal has also been claiming as its own, on its map.

Speaking with journalists at a function in Hetaunda of Makawanpur district on Tuesday, Paudel informed that the party leaders clarified their position about the recent map controversy with an all-party meeting that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli hosted on Saturday.

“We told the prime minister to take diplomatic initiatives,” he said, “Now we will watch what he does next.”

The leader was of the view that the government should talk to India about the issue as soon as possible instead of making statements in Kathmandu. He also expressed his concern that the country’s territorial integrity was not safe on both the northern and southern sides.
