Congress begins distributing candidacy forms as 7,114 delegates prepare to choose leadership

Kathmandu, October 6

Candidacies for the new working committee are being filed today under the Nepali Congress’s 15th General Convention. A total of 7,114 convention delegates will choose the new leadership.

The Election Committee has set up an office at the National Assembly Hall (Rastriya Sabhagriha) to distribute candidacy forms and register candidacies. According to Election Committee member-secretary Raju Katwal, nomination forms have been distributed to candidates since 10 am.

The delegates’ list is posted on the wall of the hall. Candidates will get a form after paying the prescribed fee to Prabhu Bank staff inside the hall.

Nominations for candidacies will be registered from 12:30 pm to 4 pm. The Congress has increased the size of its Central Working Committee from 167 to 297 members. The amended statute passed on Monday raises the number of office-bearers from 14 to 26.

Under the new arrangement, one senior vice-president and one woman vice-president have been added, bringing the number of vice-presidents to four. The number of general secretaries has been raised to three, with one woman general secretary made mandatory.

Two open joint general secretaries have been added, taking the number of joint general secretaries to 11. A spokesperson post has also been added. The party said the number of joint spokespersons may be increased further as needed.

At the 14th General Convention, the Congress Central Working Committee had 167 members and 14 office-bearers.

The Congress said it has increased the size of the Central Working Committee and the number of office-bearers because the number of delegates and inclusive participation have grown this time.
