Kathmandu, January 19

Citing irregularities, the Development Committee of the Legislature-Parliament has directed the government to review the agreement done with Korea’s Landmark Worldwide Company for the purposed construction of the international airport at Nijgadh.

At a meeting held today, the committee also directed the government to complete the construction of the international airports at Pokhara and Nijgadh at the earliest.

The committee, however, found the progress of the construction of Gautam Buddha International Airport at Bhairahawa to be satisfactory. It has directed the energy ministry to provide dedicated feeder line for expediting the construction.

Even though Nijgadh international airport has been repeatedly called a project of national pride, a detailed project report for the same is yet to released, which the committee finds to be unacceptable. A detailed construction model and the possible roadblocks for the construction of the airport should be studied, the committee said during the meeting.

The committee also announced that it will make all 56 domestic airports in the country operational while directing the government to do a detailed study on the total number of domestic and international airports that are required to serve the population.
