The Election Commission has published the election schedule for the House of Representatives election set for March 5.
The Commission on Sunday released the election programme for both the First-Past-The-Post (FPTP) and Proportional Representation (PR) systems.
According to the programme for the FPTP system, candidacy registration will take place on January 20. On that day, candidates can file their nomination papers at the office of the election officer from 10 am to 5 pm. The list of candidates will be published the same day from 5 pm to 7 pm.
Objections against candidates can be filed on January 21 from 10 am to 3 pm.
The Commission stated that nomination papers and objections will be examined and decided upon by 5 pm on January 22, and the updated list of candidates will be published from 5 pm to 7 pm the same day.
Similarly, candidates will be allowed to withdraw their names on January 23 from 10 am to 1 pm. The final list of candidates will be published from 1 pm to 3 pm the same day, and election symbols will be allotted between 4 pm and 7 pm.
Meanwhile, the programme for the Proportional Representation system will begin on December 5. According to the schedule, political parties wishing to participate in the PR election can submit applications from 10 am on December 6 until 4 pm on December 8.
The names of the parties that submitted applications will be published on December 9 between 10 am and 4 pm. Parties will have to submit their closed lists of candidates on December 28 and 29 from 10 am to 4 pm. The final closed lists will be published on February 2 from 10 am to 5 pm, according to the Commission.
As per the approved election schedule, voting will take place on March 5 from 7 am to 5 pm at the designated polling centers, said Commission joint secretary and spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai.
