Civic polls will go ahead even if Madheshi Morcha boycotts: CEC Yadav

Biratnagar, March 24

Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav says the upcoming elections will be successful even if the Madheshi Morcha does not participate.

“The elections will be successful even if the Morcha does not take part. But I am assured, just you watch, the Morcha will also take part,” Yadav said talking to mediapersons in Biratnagar.

Yadav informed that while the commission is facing some problems in the Terai, it was ready to perform its duties. “I was also commissioner during the last time elections were declared; even my own vehicle was vandalised during protests.” He said that sporadic acts of violence will not affect the success of elections.

The Chief Election Commissioner said he was assured that the Madheshi Morcha and the government will reach a deal soon and the morcha will also take part in the polls.

The elections will be historic and it will lay a strong foundation for democracy at the grass roots, he added.
