Kathmandu, March 24
Former Chief Election Commissioner Nilkantha Uprety says it would be a better idea to conduct the upcoming civic elections in phases rather than doing it on the same day.
Uprety, who was speaking at a programme in the capital on Friday, said it would be better to conduct elections in two phases, given the amount of resources that needs to be mobilised.
He also suggested that votes be counted in polling booths to reduce hassles and to increase credibility of the count. “For that to happened the local elections law needs to be amended,” he said adding that this was in accordance with international practice.
